Urban Decay Mariposa Palette Review
I am finally getting around reviewing my Urban Decay
Mariposa palette! Yikes. I have been so in love with my Naked Basics palette lately
that I have totally ignored all other palettes O_o
But I have used this palette and I have to say it is a
pretty darn good palette from Urban Decay. I like that it has some really useable
smoky colours, some decent neutrals (although all have shimmer) and a few pops
of colour. I originally wanted the Smoked Palette but I couldn’t handle the
price tag so I went with the Mariposa palette instead. I believe it was $19
then with 20% off. It is now priced at $12 on the UD website but is currently
sold out.
Anyhow, the Mariposa palette comes in a sturdy tin that will easily fit in your hand . This
is a plus because it makes it easy to tote around. The tin has a butterfly (mariposa means
butterfly in Spanish) embossed on the top. Really snazzy. The tin can be tricky
to open, sometimes I felt like I struggled to get it open. Inside there are 10
eyeshadows encased in a purple cardboard bed also decorated with butterflies.
It comes with a small version of the brush that comes in the Naked palette. There
is no mirror which is a little bit of a bummer but I generally have a mirror
kicking around so I guess that isn’t that big of a deal. The shadows in the
Mariposa palette are a bit smaller than the ones in the Naked palette (Mariposa
.03 oz each Naked .05 oz each).
The shadows for the most part are in true UD fashion; buttery and pigmented. Rockstar was a teensy bit patchy. Spotlight and Limelight took a bit more to get an even swatch and there was a bit of micro glitter fallout but nothing that would put me off. All the shadows are satiny/shimmers. My favorites (right now) are Rockstar and Wreckage.

This set of swatches are over UDPP in Eden. Just for fun I thought I would swatch these over a matte primer to show how one can tone down the shimmer intensity in these shadows (pic also taken by the window in daylight)

Overall I would say the Mariposa palette is a pretty good
palette with a good assortment of neutrals, smoky colours and a couple pops of
colour. If it ever comes back in stock at Urban Decay, I would say yes it is a
definite grab!
